Before and After |
I'd like to start by explaining what donating your hair exactly is and why people decide to do it.
When somebody cuts their hair and decides to donate it, it is used to make wigs for people, who have cancer and are not fortunate enough to afford an expensive natural hair wig. The shock that these people go through is hard to be described, because they not only have to deal with chemo and being sick, but the women start to lose confidence. The wigs help these women to feel more normal and feminine again.
The joy you feel when you give something to another person, who needs it, is unreal. I wanted to cut my hair and donate it for a long time and when it finally got long enough, I decided it was time.
A lot of people were surprised and some even tried to stop me from cutting my long hair, but I was determined, because I knew I needed to do this. I needed a change and wanted to be one of the reasons somebody smiled one day.
I encourage all of the women, who are thinking about this and have long hair to take this step. It will make a difference in somebody's life, even if it's a small one. Regardless of what anybody else says, this little act of kindness will make an impact on somebody.
I donated 40 cm (about 16 inches) of my hair and I really like my new haircut. The minimum lenght of hair you can donate is 25 cm (10 inches). The hair has to be in a ponytail and if you dye your hair, you can still donate it, as long as it's not bleached and looks healthy.
Hopefully this post inspired some of you and/or educated you a little bit about hair donation. We can make a difference!
